Daniil Medvedev and Stéfanos Tsitsipás reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros on Sunday.

The Russian and the Greek were much too strong for Cristian Garín and Pablo Carreño Busta in their fourth round match.

Victoria Azarenka dropped out of the tournament among the women.

The 25-year-old Medvedev only had a hard time with Garín in the last set, but was not surprised despite a break: 6-2, 6-1 and 7-5.

Medvedev is in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros for the first time.

He lost in the first round in his first four appearances.

Medvedev, the number two in the world, plays for a place in the semifinals against Tsitsipás.

The Greek settled with almost the same numbers with Carreño Busta: 6-3, 6-2 and 7-5.

Tsitsipás reached the semifinals in Paris last year.

In addition to Medvedev and Tsitsipás, Matteo Berrettini is also sure of a place in the last eight.

However, the Italian did not have to play for that, because opponent Roger Federer decided on Sunday to withdraw from Roland Garros.

Azarenka knocked out by Pavlyuchenkova

Two-time Grand Slam champion Azarenka was no match for Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the eighth finals, who reached the quarterfinals for the second time (also in 2011) in Paris.

The 31-year-old Azarenka still won the opening set, but then surrendered her own serve too often to claim the victory: 7-5, 3-6 and 2-6.

Pavlyuchenkova plays in the quarterfinals against Serena Williams or Elena Rybakina.

Tamara Zidansek also qualified for the last eight.

She won in two sets against Sorana Cîrstea (7-6 (4) and 6-1) and is the first Slovenian tennis player to reach the quarter-finals at a Grand Slam.

Zidansek will play against Paula Badosa in that quarterfinal.

The 23-year-old Spanish defeated Markéta Vondrousová 6-4, 3-6 and 6-2.
