Cycling on Al Hudayriat Island in Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club announced the organization of a cycling march on Al Hudayriat Island, on the occasion of the International Bicycle Day.

The event was held under the auspices of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and in cooperation with the Emirates Tour, Modon Real Estate Company, one of the partners of the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club, and the National Health Insurance Company “Daman”.

The event was inaugurated by the Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Aref Hamad Al-Awani, in the presence of the Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Al-Nakhira Al-Khaili Club, and a group of professionals and amateur cycling in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.


The Abu Dhabi Cycling Club said in a statement today, Sunday, that the march, with a distance of 40 kilometers, started from the recently opened 321 Sports Complex on Al Hudayriat Island, which includes world-class cycling facilities, with the participation of more than 300 professional and amateur cyclists.


The event was held for the first time in Abu Dhabi and supports the efforts of the UAE and the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club to raise awareness of cycling as a unique way to promote a healthy lifestyle.


The Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Aref Al-Awani, said that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has become a destination for international sports and a forum for elite events in which the most prominent stars, champions and sports decision makers participate.


He praised the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club in expanding the scope of cycling, and organizing events and competitions, to discover talents and form sports teams associated with the club, and to enhance community awareness of the importance of this sport.

For his part, the Executive Director of Abu Dhabi Cycling Club Al Nakhira Al Khaili said that organizing this event comes within the club’s efforts to spread awareness of the importance of cycling, whether for sport, pleasure or as a means of transportation, given its multiple benefits for physical and psychological health, and its contribution to preserving the environment.


 He added that the hobby of cycling has spread greatly in the UAE after the Covid-19 pandemic, and with the continuous improvements made by government agencies to the infrastructure of tracks and services, the UAE can become a global center that attracts cycling professionals and enthusiasts.


He stressed that this event was organized in light of strict precautionary measures and tight preventive measures, and in line with the outstanding national efforts made by the state in the recovery phase for the gradual return to normal life.


It is noteworthy that 300 shirts for the Emirates Tour were distributed to the pre-registered attendees on the club's website, Instagram and the club's smart application.
