Not all of the country's well-known athletes had canceled the German championship. Olympic discus champion Christoph Harting was there to finally qualify for the Tokyo Games. However, he only came in eighth with 57.29 meters. He made all further throws invalid by trespassing; he would not have improved significantly with their rating. The champion was Daniel Jasinski with 65.08 meters.

Olympic javelin champion Thomas Röhler also competed in his first competition in a year and a half.

But after the first litter it was over for him.

Because the right pectoral muscle pinched, he packed his things and, before going home to Erfurt, was optimistic, at least on his own behalf.

He knew what he had trained, he said, he had already achieved the qualifying distance for Tokyo before the pandemic, so he was confident.

Rehm wants to go to the Olympic Games

Former world champion Johannes Vetter, not at the start because of an aductor strain, is taking a high risk, commented Röhler on the series of ninety-meter throws with which Vetter has made himself a great Olympic favorite.

“Throwing ninety meters leaves traces in the body,” said Röhler.

Julian Weber became champion with 80.33 meters.

Long jumper Markus Rehm passionately called on Sunday to accept him as a track and field athlete and to nominate him for the Olympic Games. At 8.29 meters, it surpassed the norm for the third time. But the multiple Paralympics winner was only allowed to compete outside of the rating because he jumps off with a prosthesis that replaces his right lower leg. The champion was Fabian Heinle with 7.81 meters.

Rehm complains that the German Athletics Association does not enter into an exchange with him. “I wouldn't take away anyone's starting place. It's all about the start, whatever the ranking, ”he said. In the event of refusal, he announced an appeal. The association does not feel affected by a ruling by the highest sports arbitration court, CAS, which imposes the burden of proof on the world federation for the advantage of the prosthesis, but refers to the rule for a separate evaluation, which it introduced after Rehm 2014 in Nuremberg German Became a master.
