Grövdal ran the distance in world time of 8.30.84 at Bislett in Oslo and undercut the late legend Grete Waitz's Norwegian record of 8.31.75 from 1979 but must not count it.

Grövdal participated in a race where men acted as tractors, which meant that the time was not approved as an official record.

- I ran at that time and can easily do it again, says a radiantly happy Grövdal to NRK.

Grete Waitz's ex-husband Jack Waitz was surprised that Grövdal did not try to run himself.

- I was a little surprised.

It would not be approved as a record, but it is clear that running solo is not particularly advantageous.

But these are special times, says Waitz.

It was on May 1 that Grövdal broke the world record of 14.43 on street running by running at 14.39 outside Oslo.

But the time was rejected because the track was not correctly measured before the race and afterwards turned out to be 12.5 meters too short.

Kenyan Beatrice Chebet tops this year's world best list with 8.27.49.

Grövdal's time had meant a fourth place on the world best list.
