Max Verstappen is generally extremely satisfied after the first two free practice sessions for the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan.
The Dutchman is pleased with the functioning of his car, especially during the first training session on the circuit in Baku.
"This is a great start to the weekend. The car felt really good in the first practice. Then we changed some things and the car felt a little less in the second practice," said Verstappen.
The 23-year-old Verstappen won the first free practice session (1.43.184) and then finished second behind his teammate Sergio Pérez (1.42.115 to 1.42.216).
The Red Bull drivers were especially a lot faster than those of Mercedes.
"We have to see which way we are going. This was a very good day for the team," Verstappen continued.
"The wind did pick up, but everyone has to deal with that. We look strong, so I'm happy there. We'll see what tomorrow brings."
Verstappen hopes to keep his lead in the World Cup in Azerbaijan.
The Limburger has a four-point lead over Lewis Hamilton.
The Azerbaijan GP was last on the calendar in 2019, when Valtteri Bottas won.
