The second day of Roland-Garros will be marked by the entry into the running of two superstars: Roger Federer, then Serena Williams for the very first night session match in the history of the Paris tournament.

On the French side, Alizé Cornet, Caroline Garcia and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will also enter the running.

The honors of the very first night session in the history of Roland Garros have been reserved for Serena Williams: the American will enter the running from 9 p.m. on Central Court on Monday.

She will face Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (74th) in the first round.

Previously, Roger Federer will precede her on the Philippe-Chatrier court, opposed to the Uzbek Denis Istomin, from qualifying.

This will only be the fourth match of the season for the Swiss, launched at almost 40 years of age in an attempt to return to the highest level after a double right knee operation in 2020. From 11 am, the young Polish Iga Swiatek (9th ) will launch, on his 20th birthday, the defense of his title obtained last fall, against the Slovenian Kaja Juvan (101st).

Garcia, Cornet and Tsonga on track

French players will be in the spotlight of the Suzanne-Lenglen and Simonne-Mathieu courts.

On the first, will succeed Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who challenges the Italian nugget Jannik Sinner (19th), Caroline Garcia and the thirty-something Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

On the second, Alizé Cornet and Harmony Tan will open the day.

Benoît Paire will follow, who does not hide his discomfort in the face of tennis in times of pandemic, and Arthur Rinderknech, No. 2 French in the Race, the ranking established over the calendar year.
