Three days before the EM dress rehearsal against Latvia, returnees Mats Hummels had to stop team training.

The 32-year-old Dortmund was only able to watch the exercise session of his DFB colleagues from the fitness tent on Friday in Seefeld.

After his national team comeback in the international soccer match against Denmark, Hummels himself only completed an individual exercise program because of knee problems, as did Lukas Klostermann from Leipzig.

Immediately after the 1-1 draw against the Danes, national coach Joachim Löw described Hummels' patellar tendon pain as "not further tragic" and "not chronic".

However, Hummels had already accompanied the complaints in the first days of training in the Tyrolean Alps.

"He has had a season with many games," said Löw.

In the second half against EM participants Denmark he “felt something again”.

The national coach initially only assumed a one-day break.

Until the last EM test on Monday (8.45 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the international matches and on RTL) in Düsseldorf against Latvia, Hummels has time to get back on the road.

Kroos survived corona infection

The Champions League winners Kai Havertz, Antonio Rüdiger and Timo Werner from Chelsea and the loser Ilkay Gündogan from Manchester City were on the pitch for the first time on Friday in Austria. Toni Kroos, who survived a corona infection well, and Jamal Musiala, who was still ailing in the first week in Seefeld, were also present at the exercise unit. This enabled Löw to train with 23 of his total of 26 EM players.

In the remaining days until the first European Championship group game on June 15 in Munich against world champion France, the national coach wants to create many “situations that are similar to the competition”.

This was seen on Friday during an intensive attack-versus-defense exercise with rapid switching.

"Regardless of the game against Latvia, we have to sprinkle a few intensive units, especially in the tactical area," said Löw about the final spurt in Seefeld.

Munich's Leon Goretzka has to wait for team training to begin after his thigh muscle injury.

In contrast, Emre Can was able to train with his colleagues again.

The Dortmund player missed the game against Denmark due to adductor problems.

The EM dress rehearsal for the national soccer team in Düsseldorf can again be played in front of fans. Joachim Löw's team will face Latvia on Monday in front of 1000 spectators, as the DFB said on Friday. The Corona Protection Ordinance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia allows this with the current incidence of the corona pandemic. The association wants to distribute free tickets to people from systemically relevant groups, for example to helpers in the vaccination centers.

“That's gigantic,” said national player Robin Gosens about the return of the fans at the European Championship finals. Around 14,000 spectators are each admitted to the preliminary round matches of the German team in Munich against France, Portugal and Hungary. "It's a great story all round," said Gosens. Because that also means that not only the professionals, but also the amateurs will soon be able to follow this path again. "My heart opens up," said the Atalanta Bergamo winger at the training camp in Seefeld.
