The secret weapon is a wind machine that the Norwegian stars used during a training camp in Lillehammer.

Strong winds can turn biathlon competitions into something of a lottery and given the weather forecasts for the Olympics - where biathletes must be prepared for strong gusts of wind inside the stadium in Beijing - Norway is now taking new methods to increase the medal chances.

- We do not want a streamlined wind, but a little turbulence.

This gives real wind, says development manager Harri Luchsinger to the site.

"Good weapon"

NRK writes that the union has brought in a powerful fan with wheels, which also has a specially made funnel to create identical conditions.

- I did not really believe in that with the wind machine, but it is quite clear so it is when it is at its worst when it blows in the winter.

I went on both three and four boom series, so this one must be used extensively in the future.

It is a good weapon, says Johannes Thingnes Bö, three-time Olympic medalist.

Sturla Holm Lægreid:

- It is really good training, so now we can plan wind sessions that are not so easy otherwise.

"Hope so"

The Norwegians are of the opinion that the small details can become very important in Beijing.

- It may be what gives us the upper hand over the competitors.

I hope so, says Lægreid.

It remains to be seen whether Sebastian Samuelsson, Hanna Öberg and the other Swedish stars will test similar methods before the height of winter.

The Olympics will be decided in Beijing on February 4-20, 2022.
