Villarreal, Spain, won the European Football League title for the first time in its history, by beating Manchester United in a penalty shootout (11-10) after the end of the original and overtime time with a 1-1 draw, in the match that was held on Wednesday evening in Gdansk.

Villarreal opened the scoring through Gerrard Moreno in the 29th minute, and Manchester United adjusted the score through Edinson Cavani in the 55th minute, so that the Spanish team would thus guarantee its participation in the Champions League next season.

The marathon match continued until Manchester United's 11th penalty shoot-out, which was missed by veteran goalkeeper De Gea, announcing Villarreal's victory in the historic title.
