Al-Nasr basket coach on loan to Shabab Al-Ahly to lead the first team in Gulf champions clubs, Ahmed Omar, revealed five factors that qualify "Dubai Knights" to regain their Gulf title and add their fourth title to the tournament records, most notably the land factor in light of the club's hall hosting the 40th edition. During the period from 18 to 26 June, as well as the experiences gained, since most of the players had previously won three consecutive Gulf titles between 2015 and 2017.
Omar said to "Emirates Today": “I thank the club's team games department for giving me confidence in leading the Al-Ahly youth basket in a second Gulf experience for me with the team after the 2019 edition, through which they seek to invest five important factors towards regaining the Dubai Knights title. Gulf clubs are champions, and adding a fourth title to the club’s coffers after the historic triple between 2015, 2016 and 2017 ».
He explained: “The first factor assisting in the team’s ability to regain the Gulf title is based on hosting the club’s hall, the current 40th edition, as the land factor had previously played an important role in crowning (Dubai Knights) the 2016 title, which complemented its victory in Kuwait’s Gulf Cup 2015, before Adding their third consecutive title in the Gulf of Bahrain 2017 ».
He added: “The acquired experience represents an additional factor, since most of the players, especially international ones, had previously been with the team during its crowning with the past three titles, in addition to winning the bronze of Asian clubs in 2017, most notably the brothers Saeed, Muhammad Mubarak, Muhammad and Ahmed Abdullatif, and Qais Omar, And Khalil’s successor. ”
He continued: “Early next month, we are looking forward to the regularity of professional players with the team, who are among the influencing factors in helping the team compete for the title, whether the American Taylor Wilkoson was loaned from Sharjah, who had previously crowned the Gulf Clubs Double in its last two editions, and his countryman. And the main team professional Brandon Trichy, who has presented high technical levels with the knights in the last two local seasons, and has high scoring rates, especially in terms of fast penetrations and successful three-pointers.
He continued: “The support and confidence of the club’s management by giving me an additional opportunity to lead the team raises the level of ambitions, in light of the experiences gained on my personal level, because I know the abilities of most of the players, both those who have previously trained in the Al Shabab club and achieved together the Gulf champions in 2011, Or the Shabab Al-Ahly players who participated together in the 2019 edition, and we were close to reaching the final before being satisfied with the third place.
He continued: “During the coming days, stability will be placed on the final list, whose participation in the 40th edition will be approved, in light of the abundance of numbers established over many years by the Al-Ahly Youth School, and it is also one of the influencing factors in helping the team to give it a bench of substitutes at the basic level, what will play "A decisive role in the distribution of effort during matches and the ability to rest the basic elements, as the Gulf championships system requires high physical levels, as matches are held on a daily basis.
He concluded: “In the coming period, we are looking forward to playing friendly matches that will allow us to complete the preparation plans as required, whether physical or technical, and although there is no clear idea about the dates of friendlies, it will most likely bring us together with the community teams that enjoy a similarly fast style of play. What is the one followed by the rest of the other Gulf clubs, or with the teams that seek to come early to Dubai in preparation for the competitions?
