• RC Strasbourg announced on Wednesday the departure of five players at the end of their contract: Ismaïl Aaneba, Lionel Carole, Lamine Koné, Kévin Zohi and Idriss Saadi.

  • For the first and the last, these are no surprises because they were not playing.

  • For the others, these are real management choices because the 3 had had playing time this season.

Business does not drag on at Racing.

Since Sunday evening and its maintenance in Ligue 1 assured, the Strasbourg club is actively preparing for next season.

It started on Monday with the non-extension of coach Thierry Laurey's contract and it continued on Wednesday.

This time, the RCSA announced the departure of five players, all at the end of their contract: Ismaïl Aaneba, Lionel Carole, Lamine Koné, Kévin Zohi and Idriss Saadi.

For the first and the last, it's anything but a surprise: they have played very little this season.

The Saadi failure

The young Aaneba, 21, was not seen as a credible solution in the right lane of the defense.

Thierry Laurey had installed Kenny Lala then Frederic Guilbert there and called on Anthony Caci in the event of one or the other forfeiting.

As for Saadi, who arrived from Cardiff in the summer of 2017, he never won despite his 4 goals in his first year in Blue.

Too slow, too clumsy, often injured, the one who is nicknamed "the bull" will remain synonymous with a big failure in Alsace.

🤝 Having reached the end of their contract, @AanebaIsmail, @LionelCarole, Lamine # Koné, @KevinZohi and @Saadiidriss will no longer be from Strasbourg next season.

We wish you all the best for the future!

THANK YOU !

For the other three players whose contracts have not been renewed, the situation is different.

Lamine Koné and Lionel Carole have regularly lined up during the season, with 15 and 27 appearances respectively.

But often when the incumbents at the post were absent.

Finally, Kévin Zohi, also despite his 23 appearances in the top flight, has never been able to confirm expectations despite his technical and speed potential.

They too, at the end of their contract this summer, the club emblem Dimitri Liénard and veteran goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima are not part of this first "cart" of departures.

This could mean that proposals for an extension have been sent to them… These answers will perhaps come with the announcement of the new Racing coach in the coming days.

Three potential elected officials are often cited: Rémi Garde, Jocelyn Gourvennec and Julien Stéphan.
