General Secretary Friedrich Curtius and the German Football Association (DFB) have ended their cooperation.

As the DFB announced on Wednesday, it was mutually agreed.

The 45-year-old had the trust of the regional and state association bosses withdrawn in the leadership dispute.

Curtius had agreed to pave the way for a new beginning after the resignation of DFB President Fritz Keller.

Leadership dispute in the DFB

Curtius is the highest full-time employee of the association and is responsible for the headquarters in Frankfurt am Main.

A leadership dispute raged between him and Keller for months.

Deputy General Secretary Heike Ullrich will "temporarily take over his office", according to the DFB.

“This prudent step also serves the purpose of Dr.

Curtius wanted a fresh start at the top of the DFB.

The DFB Presidium would like to thank Friedrich Curtius for the services he has provided to the DFB and German football in the past, ”the message continues.

The 64-year-old Keller resigned after a Nazi settlement in a presidium meeting and some hesitation on May 11th.

He had called his vice Rainer Koch "Freisler" and, in his opinion, equated it with Roland Freisler, chairman of the People's Court under National Socialism.

During the months of the bitter dispute, Curtius was repeatedly said to have a large household power; he was active in the association for a long time.

The DFB will be headed by Koch and Peter Peters until the next Bundestag.
