Flick coaches Germany until the European Championship 2024

The German Football Association announced today, Tuesday, that former Bayern Munich coach Hans Flick has signed a contract to lead Germany after the European Championship 2020 this summer, and until the next continental tournament.

Flick will take over from current coach Joachim Loew, with whom Flick worked as an assistant coach and won the 2014 World Cup with him.

"Everything went bad quickly and surprisingly for me, and I am happy to be coach of the national team starting in the fall," said Flick, who was a long-time candidate for the position.

Flick won six titles with Bayern in the 2019-2020 season and won the league title this season but decided to leave after 18 months in the position.

Loew, who has a contract until 2022, led Germany to win the 2014 World Cup, when Flick was his assistant, and won the 2017 Confederations Cup, but his team left the 2018 World Cup from the first round and has been suffering for some time.

Germany lost 6-0 to Spain in the European Nations League in November in the national team's worst defeat in football.

Germany will host the 2024 European Championship.
