For the first time in six years, Simona de Silvestro was back in IndyCar when the qualifier for the Indy 500 was decided over the weekend.

And what a return it was for de Silvestro.

The 32-year-old Swiss, who drives for the female-dominated team Paretta Autosport, went on from the qualifiers and took the last car a place to the 105th Indy 500 next weekend.

There she will start in the last starting stage.

- To be completely honest, it was tough to move on.

But I believed in this team and everyone has worked really hard so it was mostly me who put pressure on me, to do this for everyone who put in so much work, says Simona de Silvestro to Viasat.

- Now we are with and I hope we can take some placements.

In total, 33 out of 35 drivers advanced from the qualifiers.

de Silvestro is part of a historic venture.

Team owner Beth Paretta has a technical collaboration with merited Team Penske and the majority of the team's employees are girls.

Everything from race engineers to depot staff.

- I hope we can inspire a lot of young girls to be the people they want to be, they say Silvestro.
