After five years in San Jose, Södertäljesonen, who is on an expiring contract, will enter the free agent market this summer.

He does not hesitate that the World Cup in Riga will be a good showcase for him to show off.

- Absolutely, of course it is.

Now it's up to proof when I get to start in a role like this.

If I do well, new roads can be opened up there, says Sörensen to SVT Sport.

How much did it weigh into the decision to go to the World Cup?

- Nothing from the beginning actually, it's more something I have thought about afterwards when the plane ticket was booked, that this is a good shop window.

From the beginning, my only thought was that I wanted to line up and play for Tre Kronor.

Was it obvious to say yes when the question came?

- I always want to play in the national team as long as I am whole and fresh.

The first three years with the Sharks we went to the playoffs.

Last year I also wanted to come, but then the whole World Cup was canceled.

Want a more offensive role

Sörensen has made an interesting transformation from goal scorer and offensive player in the SHL to having a more pronounced defensive role in the NHL.

- I've been stuck in San Jose, I think.

I have not had the development I have wanted but have stopped in terms of ice age and all that.

Therefore, it should be fun with a change of environment.

What do you mainly think of when you say that you are stuck?

- I have been given a very defensive role, especially in the last two years.

In the past, I have produced decently.

It will be fun with a fresh start and see what comes.

Which role do you like best, offensive or defensive?

- I take the role I get, but at the same time I have been here for a while now and feel that I would like more ice time and build on it.

Playing a little more offensively would be a lot of fun.

What has been said about your role during the World Cup?

- From the beginning it is offensive.

I play in a good second five with Adrian Kempe and Pontus Holmberg, then there will also be some power play.

It will be great fun but at the same time I have to deliver to keep that position.

"Shit fun with World Cup debut"

Sörensen already has 13 points (6 + 7) in 21 international matches on the merit list, but the tournament in Riga will be his World Cup debut.

A dream come true.

- It's going to be a lot of fun.

I have wanted to play the World Cup since I was very young and it is an honor to play for his country.

If you play in Tre Kronor, the goal is always to win gold and I think we have a very good team.
