Marc-Andre ter Stegen from FC Barcelona has to undergo another knee operation and misses the European Championship finals in the summer.

The national soccer goalkeeper announced this on Instagram.

"I'm sad.

For the first time in many years I will support my country as a fan from home.

I hope that we will win the European Championship, ”wrote the 29-year-old.

The operation will be carried out in Malmö on May 20th.

Ter Stegen underwent an operation on the patellar tendon in his right knee on August 18, 2020 and only played his first game of the season on November 7.

"I decided, together with the club's medical department, to have an additional procedure," wrote the goalkeeper.

Ter Stegen was planned by national coach Joachim Löw as a substitute behind goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Kevin Trapp from Eintracht Frankfurt and Bernd Leno from Arsenal FC should now have second and third place behind Neuer.

On Wednesday national coach Joachim Löw announced his line-up with 26 players.

Neuer is the undisputed number one and captain.
