It was during a marathon race in Milan on Sunday morning that Charlotta Fougberg hit with her fastest race ever.

She finished in twelfth place with a time of 2.28.12 - which is a new personal record with 44 seconds.

- I am proud of how I completed the race and that I set a personal record.

The goal was to average 3.29 per kilometer and it worked well half the race.

But around 30 kilometers it started to get hard, I lost some speed but fought all the way in, says Charlotta Fougberg to the Athlete.

Fougberg has just come from a high-altitude camp in Italy and thinks that the training is progressing.

- It has been a tough year with many canceled and moved races where the conditions for maximum performance have not been the best.

But the training has gone well and this was my fifth marathon start so I am still learning, she says.

The race was her second in five months which was below 2.28, which is clearly below the international qualifying limit.

She is currently not selected for the Olympics.

The race's second Swede, Hanna Lindholm, finished in the time 2.31.05.

Her fifth best time.

The winner was Titus Ekiru from Kenya, at the world best of the year 2.02.57.
