Will Cristiano Ronaldo return to Sporting?

Jorge Mendes, Cristiano Ronaldo's agent, has ruled out the return of the Juventus and Portugal national football team to his childhood club, Sporting, after the player's mother, Dolores Aveiro, confirmed that she would seek to return him to his former Portuguese club.

The 36-year-old's current contract with Juventus expires after a year, but there has been much talk about the possibility of his return this summer to Sporting, who started his football career at the first level.

After Sporting won the Portuguese League title for the first time since 2002 last Tuesday, Ronaldo's mother said, "Next year (Ronaldo) will play in Sporting."

"Cristiano is very proud to win Sporting the league title, which he has talked about publicly, but his professional career at the moment is far from Portugal," the Portuguese newspaper Record quoted Ronaldo Mendes' agent as saying.

Before the last two rounds of the season, Ronaldo was top scorer in the Italian league with 28 goals, although his Juventus team may fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Juventus will meet at home to Inter Milan, champion of the current season, later on Saturday.
