Among the Tokyo Olympics holy fire relays, a new coronavirus infection was confirmed in the drivers of the vehicles forming a platoon at the relay held in Saga Prefecture on the 9th.


This is the first time that an infection has been confirmed by a person involved in the relay platoon.

According to the Games Organizing Committee, a relay held in Saga Prefecture on the 9th confirmed the infection of the new corona, the driver of a platoon running in front of and behind the torchbearer.



The Organizing Committee has not disclosed details such as the age of the driver, the number of people in the car, and whether they were working in other municipalities, and the health center has confirmed the close contacts.



Eight people involved in the torch relay, including police officers and local city hall staff, have been confirmed to be infected, but all of them were involved in traffic control work, and the people involved in the relay platoon were infected. This is the first time it has been confirmed.



The Organizing Committee states, "We will strive to prevent the spread of infection and take necessary measures to implement a safe and secure torch relay."
