Halfway into Tuesday's NHL game between Washington and the New York Rangers, it got messy after a blowout and Washington's Tom Wilson pushed down Rangers' Pavel Butjnevich, and aimed a shot at the lying Russian.

In the great quarrel that arose, Wilson also smoked together with Artemij Panarin and appeared to throw the Russian star, who had lost his helmet, onto the ice.

Panarin injured himself and is away for the rest of the season.

Wilson, who has been suspended several times during his career, escaped suspension but was fined the equivalent of SEK 42,000.

The club received an environmental fine

It caused the New York Rangers to collapse.

In a statement, the club demanded the resignation of the head of the disciplinary committee, George Parros.

Which resulted in the club being fined SEK 2.1 million.

When the teams met two days later, it became a mass fight immediately after the match's first technical.

And when Tom Wilson made his first change of the game, he barely had time to take a skate before being jumped on by Rangers defender Brendan Smith.

Wilson tells The Athletic that he has contacted Artemij Panarin afterwards.

- He's feeling better.

I heard from him and that is really the only thing that matters now, he says.

"It's crazy"

But he is surprised by the aftermath.

- I never thought it would inflate as much as it did.

It felt like a pretty routine hockey pit and I think both guys in the penalty box felt it.

Then it obviously got new life after the match, he says.

Wilson calls it a "crazy moment" and says it is difficult to say if you could do something different.
