One week ago, 27-year-old Keishla Rodríguez Ortiz was reported missing.

She was pregnant, and a few days later she was found in Lake Laguna San José in Puerto Rico - deceased.

Early in the investigation, the boxer Félix Verdejo Sánchez became interesting to the police, according to information she carried the Puerto Rican child.

Verdejo Sánchez - who boxed at the London 2012 Olympics and has won 27 of his 29 professional fights - is said to have contacted a person, now an FBI witness, and asked for help to end the pregnancy.

According to the witness, Verdejo Sánchez allegedly hit Keishla Rodríguez Ortiz in the face in the car, and injected her with "a syringe filled with substances".

He is said to have tied her hands and feet, and tied a brick to her body.

He then allegedly drove to a bridge and with the help of the witness dumped her in Lake Laguna San José.

Verdejo Sánchez is said to have fired a shot at her in the water.

"Eliminate evil"

Verdejo Sánchez has now handed himself over to the police.

And the 27-year-old is charged with the murder of Keishla Rodríguez Ortiz, as well as for having murdered an unborn child.

The maximum penalty that Verdejo Sánchez can receive is the death penalty.

"We must keep the anger and pain we feel every time we witness violent crimes in a close relationship, so that we do not rest in our responsibility to protect, prevent and eliminate evil," Puerto Rico Governor Pedro Pierluisi told NBC.
