A draw for Barcelona and Atletico gives Real an edge in the title race

The race to the Spanish La Liga title is now wide open after Barcelona and Atletico Madrid drew 0-0 at Camp Nou on Saturday.

The draw means that third-placed Real Madrid will rise to the top if it defeats fourth-placed Sevilla on Sunday, tied with Atletico, with 77 points, but Real will excel in direct confrontations before three rounds to the end.

Barcelona advanced to second place with 75 points.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique said, "The cards are still mixed and the league is open. Three matches are a great number even if we know that our fate is not in our hands."

"Anything could happen and I would like to know if there is another team in the competition who won four matches in a row. This is something we just did."

"If we win the remaining three matches, I think we will be crowned. We will fight to the end even if we do not achieve what we needed."

The visitors were the better side in the first half and Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen interfered several times to keep his sheets clean.

Atletico striker Angel Correa seemed to score before Climo Lenglet suspended him before the end, while Atletico defender Felipe missed the most likely chance in the match before the end of the first half when he fired over the goal from close range after a good corner kick.

Barcelona had the most dangerous opportunity with great skill from striker Lionel Messi, when he penetrated the center of five players, but goalkeeper Jan Oblak blocked his shot impressively.

Barcelona's substitute defender Ronald Araujo's goal was canceled for offside after the break when the Catalans improved but both teams failed to reach the net as Real Madrid took an advantage in the volatile season.
