Real Madrid will have to wait to win their fourteenth Champions League.

The Spanish club was eliminated in the semifinals of the most prestigious European football cup, on May 5, 2021 in London.

The Madrilenians were beaten 2-0 there by a solid and valiant Chelsea team who had already held them in check in the first leg (1-1).

Mendy resists and Werner gushes

In the first period, however, each team has its clear opportunities.

The Madrilenians however come up against an exceptional Édouard Mendy.

The goalkeeper is on the path of strikes signed by midfielders Toni Kroos (10th) and Luka Modric (17th).

The Senegalese then disgusts Karim Benzema.

First of all by deflecting a shot from the attacker for a corner, with a superb parade (26th).

Then by slamming the ball for a corner, following a header from the French (36th).

Dominated in the game but more aggressive, the Londoners managed to open the scoring in the 28th minute.

Kai Havertz surprises the opposing goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with a sharp shot.

The ball bounces off the crossbar but Timo Werner catches it.

The center forward, much criticized in England for his lack of efficiency, concluded with a head, at close range: 1-0.

At the start of the second period, Havertz still sends the ball to the Madrid cross (47th).

But, this time, there is an exit.

Then, the German loses a crucial duel against Courtois (59th).

A 100% English final

When he is not decisive, it is a defender who comes to save the Belgian, as in the 66th minute when Frederico Valverde prevents midfielder Ngolo Kanté from doubling the bet.

In the 85th minute, the striker Mason Mount however bears the blow, on a service from midfielder Christian Pulisic: 2-0.

There will therefore be a 100% English Champions League final for the third time, after Liverpool-Tottenham (2019) and Manchester United-Chelsea (2008).

The “Blues”, winners of the event in 2012, will face Mancunians again on May 29, 2021 in Istanbul.

But this time it will be City's.

For Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel, this meeting at the top will have a funny flavor.

The German technician had lost the final of the previous edition with Paris Saint-Germain (0-1 against Bayern Munich), four months before being dismissed by PSG.

However, in three weeks, he will be where the Parisians have not managed to go without him ...
