The disputes among Germany's football officials have finally reached a new level of escalation. Amid all the speculation about a possible resignation of the badly damaged DFB President Fritz Keller, Vice President Rainer Koch and DFL Boss Christian Seifert are now attacking each other with letters that not only went to the clubs, but were pierced directly to the media and thus spread Got attention. In a reply from the German Press Agency, Koch countered all allegations of the professional camp around Seifert on Tuesday.

In a letter sent to ZDF and “Kicker”, the DFL asked for an explanation from Koch as to whether he had commented on possible plans of the DFL and future plans of Seifert.

The problems of the German Football Association “cannot be solved by building up imaginary enemy images and adventurous conspiracy theories”, Seifert informed the vice-president.

"The DFB has never been deeper than it is at the moment"

After his Nazi settlement, the heads of the DFB state and regional associations are now withdrawing their trust in Fritz Keller.

In the midst of the official mud battle, in which DFB boss Keller and General Secretary Friedrich Curtius had the trust of the state and regional bosses withdrawn on Sunday, an answer from Koch was not long in coming.

In bold letters and also underlined, he wrote on the first of eight pages of the letter: "Your corresponding claim, which is now well distributed in all media across Germany, is fictitious."

But that's not all.

Jurist Koch, who is in an acute clinch with the professional and President Keller, added: "I ask you not to make this claim any further and I would be grateful for an early correction." Koch, who is also President of the Bavarian Football Association , fight “for the concerns of amateur football”, who would like to be supported by the professional as they have “been supporting professional football for over 12 months now”.

Keller must fear sanctions

The DFB conference in Potsdam at the weekend felt like a tremor.

The heads of the state and regional associations not only withdrew their trust from Keller and Curtius, but also weakened cook and treasurer Stephan Osnabrügge, who received the basic trust, but also numerous votes against.

The professional camp, led by the Bundesliga representatives, meanwhile has constant disputes with Koch and, above all, Curtius.

Association withdraws President Keller's confidence

The presidents of the state and regional associations have withdrawn DFB President Fritz Keller's confidence and asked him to step down from his position.

This is the result of an extraordinary conference this weekend in Potsdam.

General secretary Friedrich Curtius was also withdrawn from trust.

Koch accused the DFL and Seifert of not actually supporting the structural changes at the DFB that were introduced in the Bundestag in 2019.

The current debate confirmed Koch's impressions that the league association "only ostensibly supported" the changes and "never wanted to implement", but wanted to continue making changes that could ultimately be detrimental to amateur football, "wrote Koch.

In the midst of these trench warfare, even the Nazi settlement of association boss Keller, for which he now has to answer before the DFB sports court, becomes a minor matter for a short time.

The 64-year-old winemaker has come under even more pressure and has to fear sanctions after the ethics committee referred its results to the three-person committee chaired by Hans E. Lorenz.

“A decision can be expected in May, but not this week and not next week,” said Lorenz.

The proceedings against Keller are not public

According to ZDF information, Keller wants to comment on his future in the coming days.

Despite his heavily criticized verbal derailment towards Koch, whom he compared with the former Nazi judge Roland Freisler at the DFB presidium meeting on April 23, DFB boss Keller has asked for time to think about a possible resignation.

Before leaving, however, is the treasurer Osnabrügge, who can be assigned to the Curtius camp in the leadership dispute.

The functionary will no longer compete at the next DFB Bundestag in 2022, the ZDF tweeted on Tuesday.

According to dpa information, Osnabrügge had announced this at the conference in Potsdam.

The DFB could not initially be reached to comment on this.

Keller's opponent Curtius, with whom the president has been fighting a public feud for months, had already signaled his willingness to withdraw from office on Monday.

He is available for talks "on constructive solutions for the DFB at any time," said the Secretary General.

"Of course, this also includes my role."

The DFB ethics committee had also discussed two applications against Curtius.

On the one hand, it concerns the circumstances in connection with the immediate termination of Keller's office manager and, on the other hand, the forwarding of a letter from Keller to the media advisor Kurt Diekmann.

These results were also submitted to the sports court; there was no mention of an attitude here.

To assess the cellar scandal, the sports court under the direction of Lorenz began its work on Tuesday. The 71-year-old announced that the procedure, including a possible oral hearing about possible sanctions, was “not public”.
