Ruy Vitoria from Portugal may become the new head coach of Spartak Moscow.

As it became known to RT, a contract with a 51-year-old specialist has already been signed, but its details have not been disclosed.

He will lead the team at the end of the season, when the current coach of the red and white Domenico Tedesco leaves his post.

In the club itself, this information has not yet been officially confirmed.

Public Relations Director Anton Fetisov noted that the name of the next head coach will be announced in about two weeks.

“I don't have time to keep track of the number of final candidates: Garcia, another Garcia, Jardim, Benitez, Vitoria.

You can continue the list indefinitely.

You will find out everything after May 16 ", - quotes Fetisov" Championship ".

Spartak's interest in Vitoria became known back on April 16, when the Portuguese edition O Jogo reported about it.

On the same day, it was reported that the head coach of Roma, Paulo Fonseca, could also lead the red-and-white.

But then Fetisov joked about the possible arrival of these specialists in the club.

“I'm expecting Jose Mourinho by nightfall.

Today is a Portuguese day, ”he told Sport24.

Vitoria is known in the world of football primarily as a former coach of Benfica.

He headed one of the Portuguese grandees from the summer of 2015 until his dismissal in early 2019.

With the Lisbon players, the specialist won all official Portuguese tournaments, including two national championships, and was twice recognized as the best coach of Primeira.

He also led Benfica to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Vitoria began his coaching career at the age of 32, without achieving noticeable success as a player.

After two seasons at Vilafrankenz, he ended up in the Benfica system, where he worked with the youth team for two years.

Then Vitoria returned to professional football and led Fatima, which he took to the second division of the Portuguese championship.

With this, he attracted attention at home and in 2010 signed a contract with the club of Primeira Pasos de Ferreira.

With the new team, Vitoria immediately reached the Portuguese Cup final, in which he lost to Benfica.

The following season, he was already in charge of the namesake club - Vitoria from Guimaraes - and also got to the decisive match of the National Cup, where Benfica again awaited him.

This time, Vitoria took revenge from the Lisbonians, and two years later he led them.

In the first year of work with Benfica, the specialist has achieved impressive success.

To begin with, he led the team to the Champions League quarterfinals, reaching Zenit in the first round of the playoffs, and then winning the Portuguese Championship and the League Cup.

In the following season, Benfica again passed the group stage of the most prestigious European competition and defended the title of national champion.

But this is where Vitoria's achievements at the head of the Lisbon club end. Already in the fall of 2017, Benfica failed loudly in the Champions League, having suffered six defeats in the group stage, two of which were inflicted by CSKA. That season, Vitoria did not lead his players to new trophies, and six months later he was fired when the club for the first time in history lost to the modest Portimonense.

While working at Benfica, Vitoria managed to prove himself as an excellent mentor for young people. He was not afraid to include young players in the lineup, who then found places for themselves in the leading European clubs and the Portuguese national team. These include ex-Bayern defender and European champion Renato Sanches, former Barcelona player Nelson Semeda, former PSG winger Gonsada Guedes and sold to Manchester City for € 68 million by Ruben Dias. Vitoria also recruited Victor Lindelof and Luka Jovic as Benfica, who later moved to Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Just a week after leaving Benfica, Vitoria ended up in Saudi Arabia's Al-Nasr. He immediately led the new team to victory in the national championship and reached the semifinals of the Asian Champions League with it. But the successes of the Portuguese specialist did not last long. The next season, Al-Nasr finished second in the national championship, and in the fall of 2020, the team began their performance in the tournament with six defeats in ten matches. In December, the contract with Vitoria was terminated by mutual agreement of the parties, and since then he remained unemployed.
