Popular sport is suffering from the corona pandemic.

Training is only possible to a very limited extent, if at all.

The competition operations are completely suspended due to the measures to combat the pandemic.

Associations are increasingly suffering from the resignation of their members.

According to the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), over a million people have left sports clubs in Germany in the past twelve months.

"Children and adolescents in particular are affected by this," said DOSB CEO Veronika Rücker.

The decline in membership hits the clubs to the core and could put many of them in great financial difficulties.

Creative solutions are required.

One of them is supplied by a small brewery from Schleswig-Holstein, which launched Aktion Vereinsheim.

“The chairman of the KMTV association from Kiel told us about the challenges the clubs are currently facing.

Members are dwindling, people cannot pay their dues, and people lose contact with their association because of the lack of offers, ”says Max Kühl.

Competition in the drinks shelf

Together with a supermarket chain, the founder of Lillebräu launched the “Club Home” campaign last year.

Associations from the region can apply and advertise themselves with their logo on the beer bottles.

Since no competition is currently possible on the squares and in the halls due to the corona restrictions, it should at least take place in the drinks shelf.

The clubs compete against each other, the bottles are sold in a virtual donation table.

For every bottle sold, 50 cents go directly to the clubs.

Money that is urgently needed in times of a lack of income.

At the end of the season, the supermarket chain added 1000, 500 and 250 euros for the best three clubs.

Last year, 18,000 euros were raised for clubs in Schleswig-Holstein.

“Not only the donation is important for the clubs.

You can draw attention to yourself with this action.

We have a platform for these small clubs.

For them it is even more important than the money that the people in their region identify with them and not be forgotten, ”says Kühl.

Sports clubs are extremely important social supports: "If they start to crumble, we really have a big problem in the long term."

A number also shows that the decline in membership is already causing difficulties for the clubs: while 50 clubs took part in the campaign last year, there are now more than twice as many.
