Inter Milan fans' celebrations of the league title are causing "controversy and concern" in Italy

The crowning of Inter Milan with the long-awaited title in the Italian football league, was met with great celebrations by fans that witnessed the violation of precautionary measures to combat the emerging Corona virus.

About 30,000 Inter fans gathered in central Milan after securing the title on Sunday, as Inter described it as "responsible celebrations," but the scenes of fans who did not wear masks or did not respect social distancing measures spread in the Lombardy region.

Inter crowned his nineteenth Italian league title effortlessly after Atalanta, his only opponent, drew with Sassuolo one-on-one to trail Inter by 13 points four rounds before the end of the season.

The crowd's protests caused harsh criticism from Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala, at a time when many citizens used their Facebook accounts for social networking to complain about allowing Inter fans to celebrate despite the pandemic while others are forced to stay home.

Italy witnessed 121,000 deaths due to Corona, and the losses of the Lombardy region were heavy as a result of the pandemic.

The President of the Lombardy region, Atilio Fontana, expressed the hope that the celebrations of Inter fans would not cause an increase in the number of infections.
