The dominant Westbrook was noted for 18 points, as many rebounds and 14 assists as Washington beat the Los Angeles Lakers 116-107 at home in the Capital One Arena last night.

This is the third time in his career that the star has made at least 30 triple-doubles in one and the same season - that is, double digits in three statistics columns - and comparatively no other player has succeeded with that feat more than once.

13 of them have arrived in April and no other player in NBA history has made as many triple doubles in one month.

After eleven victories in the last 13 matches, the bottom team Washington is now sniffing at a playoff spot.

A scenario that felt completely unlikely at the beginning of the year when the team lined up losses and was tormented by a covid outburst in the squad.

- We have had a bad season.

But if we finish strong and reach the playoffs, people will hopefully remember that, says center Alex Len to AP.

LeBron back first in the playoffs?

The other thing that stood out in the match was an eye-catching thump by Rui Hachimura who with his powerful action sent Lakers superstar Anthony Davis down the hill.

Davis got up and covered his nose to see if he was bleeding nosebleeds.

For the Los Angeles Lakers - who are missing injured superstar LeBron James - it was the fourth loss in the last five games.

The reigning champions are "only" fifth in the Western Conference with almost as many losses as wins (36-26).

- LeBron is still gone indefinitely.

That's all I have to say about that thing, says coach Frank Vogel about the team's four-time MVP, who may not play more during the regular season.

Approaching an all-time record

The more positive news was that Anthony Davis scored 26 points;

his best record since making a comeback after a 30-match absence.

Washington's Bradley Beal was the top scorer in the game with 27 points.

He is the one who averages the most points per game in the entire NBA this season with 31.3.

Stephen Curry is close behind with 31.2.

Russell Wesbrook now has 176 triple-doubles in his career and is just five more from touching, and six more from passing, icon Oscar Robertson who has made the most ever in NBA history.
