Moderator Oliver Welke will no longer work in sports at ZDF.

The 55-year-old will no longer be at the European Football Championship this summer and at the World Cup in Qatar next year, the public broadcaster announced on Tuesday.

The ZDF wrote in a statement of an "amicable solution".

First the industry service "dwdl" reported about it.

Together with ex-national goalkeeper Oliver Kahn as experts, Welke led through the live broadcasts for many years.

The 51-year-old Kahn had given up his work at ZDF last year after twelve years after he had moved to the board of directors of FC Bayern Munich.

"Oliver Welke, together with Oliver Kahn as an expert at his side, has shaped the ZDF football coverage of the major events in recent years," said sports director Thomas Fuhrmann in the station's statement.

Due to the postponement of the European Football Championship and the departure of Kahn, the change now comes.

Jochen Breyer (38) and Katrin Müller-Hohenstein (55) will present the EM on ZDF for Welke.

Welke worked for various broadcasters in sports for more than 20 years.

Since 2009 he has also been the presenter of the ZDF satirical program “heute-show”.
