The Tokyo Olympic torch relay, which started in Kagoshima Prefecture on the 27th, arrived in Kagoshima City before 8 pm on the 27th and finished the first day.

The Tokyo Olympic torch relay will be held in Kagoshima Prefecture from the 27th for two days, and about 190 runners will run around 14 cities and towns in the prefecture.

The departure ceremony was held at the port of Shibushi City, and Akemi Yasukawa, a nurse who overcame breast cancer as the first torchbearer in Kagoshima Prefecture, started before 8:30 am.

Mr. Yasukawa, who finished the run, said, "I got the cheers from the people along the road and let me run comfortably."

After that, the torch went to Kagoshima City after visiting Amami Oshima, which was not visited at the last Tokyo Olympics.

In Kagoshima City, Saori Sakoda, who won the bronze medal at the women's volleyball tournament in London, and Junichi Miyashita, who won the bronze medal at the men's medley relay at the Beijing tournament, acted as runners.

When many people gathered along the road, city officials called for wearing masks and keeping a distance from each other, holding panels as an infection prevention measure.

The final runner arrived at the Waterfront Park in Kagoshima City at around 7:50 pm and finished the first day.

On the 28th, the second day, we will depart from Izumi City and connect the torch to Ibusuki City in the southern part of the Satsuma Peninsula.
