About 15,000 people attended the fights organized by the American League of MMA UFC on Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida.

This is a first in the United States since March 2020, and an event then organized in Las Vegas.

The UFC was then forced to organize its competitions behind closed doors on American soil, or to move them to Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shortly before the event, the State of Florida recorded 7,411 new Covid-19 contaminations for the day of Saturday, as well as 53 deaths.

UFC stars responded to the event.

The Nigerian-American welterweight champion Kamaru Usman won his fight in the second round against his American challenger Jorge Masvidal, whom he beat for the first time in July 2020.

Earlier in the evening, American Rose Namajunas resumed her strawweight belt, which she had already won in 2017, thanks to a kick to the head that knocked out her Chinese opponent Zhang Weili.

The first of the title fights, in the flyweight category, went to Kyrgyz Valentina Shevchenko, who used her 9cm height advantage to defeat her Brazilian challenger Jessica Andrade.
