The UAE team of Slovenian Tadej Pogacar and Switzerland's Marc Hirschi announced that they had received the green light to participate in Liège-Bastogne-Liège on Sunday after having had to give up the Flèche Wallonne due to positive Covid-19 results.

"All the riders and the staff underwent the PCR tests on Friday like the other teams following the race protocol," said the Emirati team.

“These tests gave negative results and the team received confirmation (from the health authorities) that we could run Liège-Bastogne-Liège”.

Evacuate the frustration

Pogacar, the winner of the Tour who placed 3rd last year in Liège, and Hirschi, 2nd in the last edition of the Doyenne, will therefore be present at the start with in particular the Italian Davide Formolo (2nd in 2019) and the 'American Brandon McNulty.

On Wednesday, the UAE team was excluded from the Flèche Wallonne following the positive result of a runner, the Italian Diego Ulissi, and a member of the staff, during the tests carried out on their arrival in Belgium.

The other tests carried out subsequently had given negative results.

“The team is frustrated but fully accepts the final decision of the Belgian authorities,” reacted UAE, whose workforce was vaccinated at the start of the year.
