The Euro will be without Ryan Giggs.

The ex-Manchester United star, Wales coach, is being prosecuted for acts of violence against two women, and will therefore not take a seat on the Welsh bench during the competition.

The former left winger, 47, had already missed the debut of Wales' 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The announcement of prosecution now deprives him of participating in the Euro.

"In light of this decision, the FAW can confirm that Robert Page will assume the role of manager of the men's national team for this summer's Euro 2020 tournament and will be assisted by Albert Stuivenberg," the Welsh Federation said in a statement. .

A spokesperson for the UK prosecution service said the former winger would appear in Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on April 28.

"I will plead not guilty"

"We have authorized the Greater Manchester Police to charge Ryan Giggs with controlling or coercive behavior and of having committed an assault resulting in bodily harm," the prosecutor's statement said. "A charge of assault by beating against a second woman has also been authorized," he added. The two assault charges relate to an incident on November 1, 2020 at Giggs' home in Worsley, near Salford, with one of the two alleged victims being his partner at the material time. Arrested on the evening of the incident, the Welsh football legend had been released on bail and remains under judicial supervision.

"I will plead not guilty in court and I can not wait to wash the honor of my name, the coach responded in a statement.

I have complete respect for the legal process and I understand the seriousness of the allegations.

Wales will start their Euro campaign with a match against Switzerland in Baku on 12 June.

“I would like to wish Robert Page, the coaching staff, the players and the supporters every success at Euro this summer,” said Giggs.

"A meeting of the board of directors of the FAW will be convened to discuss these latest developments and their impact on the federation and the national team", for its part indicated the FAW.
