The European Union is studying its options regarding dissident clubs

The European Union studied its options regarding the steps it would take against the 12 clubs that launched the separatist European Super League, before retreating from its move 48 hours later, without taking any measures at the present time, as announced Friday.

"The Executive Committee has been informed of the latest developments regarding the Super League, especially the options available to the European Union and the measures it intends to take," the Confederation said in a statement after the conclusion of its Executive Committee meeting in Lausanne.

The continental federation had witnessed a separation, 12 of the elite continental clubs had planned to launch the Super League competition, but the strict reaction from the supporters of these clubs and their national federations and the majority of public opinion made them retreat from their step and not only this matter, but apologized to their supporters.

So far, 9 clubs have withdrawn from the Super League, including six from England, while Spanish football poles Real Madrid and Barcelona have not yet done so, in addition to Juventus.

One of the options was to exclude the trio consisting of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City from the semi-finals of the Champions League competition scheduled for next week, but the President of the Slovenian European Union, Alexander Ceferin, ruled out this step, and told the Slovenian network "Pop T" on Wednesday: "There is an opportunity. Little to no matches next week (in the Champions League). If we cancel these matches, the TV networks will demand compensation. "
