The Bayern Munich star strengthened Real Madrid for five years

Austrian David Alaba, the most prominent pillar of Bayern Munich, the German champion in the last eight years, is close to signing a five-year contract with Real Madrid, according to what the "Sky" sports network confirmed on Tuesday.

Alaba, 28, who is able to occupy several positions (back, center back, and focal point) played a major role in Bayern's successes over the past decade, most notably his twice European Champions League title (2013 and 2020) and nine titles in the domestic league out of 26 titles.

He is heading for the tenth title in the Bundesliga, which may be decided next Saturday.

Alaba, who played 428 matches with Bayern, announced last February that he wanted to leave, refusing to extend his contract. "I decided to take on a new challenge after this season, I will leave the club."

Bayern announced his contract, starting from the end of the season, with 22-year-old Leipzig defender Daewoo Obamikano, with a deal valued at 43 million euros.
