- Very sad, but we see no alternative, says O-Ringen's chairman Linda Take in a press release.

She continues:

- The O-Ring has had a continuous dialogue with infection control in Uppsala and the latest message is clear: it is no longer realistic to hope for an arrangement of the size of the O-Ring this summer.

"Dependence on state aid"

The 9,000 orienteers who have signed up will keep their starting place until next year.

But financially, the situation is strained for the O-ring and the competition's owner, the Swedish orienteering association.

- Just like last year, we will need to introduce a number of austerity measures and we are also dependent on continued state support to handle the situation.

We also do not rule out that ownership contributions may be required to manage the O-Ring's liquidity, says Maria Krafft Helgesson, chairman of the association.
