In La Beaujoire,

Nantes lost again, but probably did not lose (for the fifteenth time this season) during their worst performance.

Far from there.

Sunday evening, at Beaujoire, the Canaries were beaten (1-2) by Olympique Lyonnais (4th), who clings to the basques of the leading trio.

Five days from the end, the FCN nevertheless remains 19th with three points behind Nîmes.

A daring tactical device

We expected a 5-3-2 as in Rennes (1-0 defeat) or during the improbable success in Paris (1-2).

Antoine Kombouaré took everyone by surprise by aligning an offensive 4-4-2 and leaving Touré on the bench.

Louza and Chirivella were placed in midfield with Simon and Kolo Muani on the sides.

In front, Blas was in support of the revenant Coulibaly, more titular since January 24 and the era… Domenech.

Offensively, Nantes seemed very comfortable in this device, much less defensively.

Evidenced by the two Lyon goals, on which Lucas Paqueta pierced the Nantes rearguard to serve Depay for the opener (5th) and Toko Ekambi, mown by Lafont in the penalty area (37th, penalty converted by Depay ).

A surprisingly enterprising FCN

It had been a while since we had seen so many movements and so many sequences built among the Canaries. And this from the start of the match. But, as is often the case, Kombouaré's men lacked accuracy in the last or penultimate pass, and had an unfortunate tendency to want to combine too much into the penalty area instead of hitting ... A lack of spontaneity embodied by Coulibaly ( 32nd), Kolo Muani (43rd) or Simon in additional time for the first half. After the reduction of the gap of Pallois (1-2, 60th), after a header from a corner from Kolo Muani pushed back by Lopes, Nantes even completely turned off OL and kept the ball, without being sharp enough. Lafont, however, almost offered a goal to Les Gones on a failed exit, but saved on the line by Fabio (70th).

An accounting situation still so complicated

At kick-off, the Canaries were aware of the results of their direct opponents.

Lorient had lost on the wire in Marseille (3-2) and Nîmes had conceded a draw (1-1) at home against Strasbourg.

Rather positive results in terms of maintenance.

However, Nantes did not take advantage ... By conceding this new setback, the Canaries remain 19th with three points behind the Gardois and four over the Merlus.

Five days from the end, everything remains possible and the gap is obviously not crippling.

Nantes will now have to necessarily regain (at one time or another) the taste for victory in Strasbourg on Sunday and then in Brest to hope to maintain or at worst finish in place of a barrage (18th).
