It is in the competition Around Turkey, which will be decided this weekend, that Fabio Jakobsen will make his comeback.

- I feel pretty good and am building myself up.

It feels good to be back on the bike and really live like a professional cyclist again, he says.

The Dutchman Jakobsen says that his goal for the year is only to compete again, but hopes to be back at the highest level in 2022 or 2023.

- I am expectant but also a little nervous to be back and even though I am a little scared I want to compete because I like it so much, says the 24-year-old.

- My second goal in the future is to hopefully be able to raise my arms in a gesture of victory.

Skiers were suspended

It was in the World Cup race around Poland in August that compatriot Dylan Groenewegen beat Jakobsen in the sprint and caused a mass crash.

Jakobsen flew into the billboards and suffered severe injuries to his face.

He was operated on for many hours and placed in an artificial coma for a few days.

In early October, he underwent facial surgery where the jaw was reconstructed.

Jakobsen recovered quickly, however, and was back on the bicycle saddle again in November.

Groenewegen was closed for nine months.

He also received death threats.

The International Cycling Union, UCI, has said that it will tighten the safety of riders during competitions after the accident.
