Last year, the tournament was postponed for four months and was played with a limited number of spectators.

This year's edition of the French championships will now be moved forward by a week and will now be played from 30 May to 13 June.

According to the French Tennis Federation, the hope is that the move will mean that more spectators can be admitted to the gravel tournament at Roland Garros in Paris.

The advance will affect the ATP and WTA Tour calendars scheduled to launch on June 7.
