AS Roma coach Paulo Fonseca is wary of Ajax in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

The Portuguese goes for a tactic in which he makes it as difficult as possible for the team from Amsterdam to attack.

"My players look motivated and confident. We have to play the perfect match, in every way. Ajax has a very strong team," said Fonseca at his press conference in the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Wednesday evening.

"It is especially important that we do not make any mistakes defensively. We want to make sure that Ajax has as little the ball as possible and that they create as few chances as possible."

Fonseca has an incomplete selection against Ajax.

He misses Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Chris Smalling and Stephan El Shaarawy, Juan Jesus, Marash Kumbulla and Nicolò Zaniolo are also not there.

Yet he also had good news.

"Jordan Veretout (the midfielder struggled with an injury in recent weeks, ed.) Is doing well. He is fit and will be in the starting line-up", the coach explained.

"The same goes for Edin Dzeko, he trained well all week."

Ajax-AS Roma starts on Thursday at 9 p.m.

The return in Italy is exactly a week later and starts at the same time.

Arsenal-Slavia Prague, Granada-Manchester United and Dinamo Zagreb-Villarreal are the other quarter-finals.
