23-year-old
rider
Alberto 'Wey' Zapata
had motocross in his blood.
His passion for racing was so enormous that not even the serious traffic accident he suffered on November 20, 2020, which cost him the
amputation of his left arm,
managed to keep him off the tracks.
Fortune then wanted a health worker to cross his path to apply the tourniquet that saved his life: 'Wey' Zapata lost his arm, but kept his desire to compete intact.
Despite the fact that the doctors who treated him were pessimistic about the chances that he would get back on a motorcycle, in little more than three months after his accident, in February 2021, Zapata was not only able to ride but also participated in
official races
throughout Argentina.

In his first attempt, he achieved a creditable
eleventh place
driving only with his right arm, but in his second race, on March 4, he even managed to climb into the box.
"
First podium after my amputation,
the results of daily work, wishes, dreams and a truly unforgettable moment," he wrote on his Instagram profile after lifting the trophy in Chubut.
In just 90 days, 'Wey' Zapata had managed to overcome his serious accident and resume his sports career thanks to daily work to find the balance that would allow him to
ride his motorcycle without his
left
arm
.
His tenacity earned him a new podium, this time in Mendoza: "He passed another podium, I missed first place in the last corner of the last lap," Zapata lamented in an Instagram post in which he also remembered everything the effort made to compete again.
"The truth is, sometimes I even find it hard to believe everything that is happening to me with how difficult it is to handle with one arm just four months after the amputation and three podiums being that just for me it is enough just to be able to enjoy riding in motorcycle I also have the happiness of being on a podium. To tell you that
thanks to all the people who support me every day, that
is why I go out ahead and put so much desire in life, let's work for our dreams always building the path step by step. step! ", he added.

The tragedy, however, crossed his path
again
in a
new accident
this Sunday from which this time he could no longer recover.
It happened in the middle of the race.
In a jump, he lost his balance and fell to the ground where two other pilots could not avoid colliding with him, as explained by the newspaper Clarín.
'Wey' was taken to the emergency hospital, but
died hours later
as a result of the injuries he suffered when he was run over by the two pilots.
