Sophia Flörsch's new company car has almost 600 hp.

In a racing version of the Audi R8, the 20-year-old from Munich will compete in the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) for Team Abt.

As the first woman in eight years.

For Flörsch, it is the next step in a career that will one day end in Formula 1.

Very few believed that she would get that far.

Because the doubts about a woman at the steering wheel of a racing car have been with Flörsch since childhood.

WORLD:

Ms. Flörsch, were there moments in your racing driver's life when you experienced mistrust in your counterpart?

Flörsch:

Most of the time it happens behind my back, but sometimes people tell me to my face.

Then it is said that “a woman will not manage to assert herself anyway”.

Teams are reluctant to give the best material to a woman because of a lack of ultimate belief.

But without the best material you don't win in motorsport, as you can now see with Mick Schumacher.

I do not want to complain.

That doesn't happen often, but it does.

In the meantime, I am no longer concerned, but that was different when I was 13 or 14 years old.

You don't necessarily understand this rejection right away.
