The last time Real Madrid and Liverpool faced each other in the European Football Club Cup (Champions League), it was in the 2018 Champions League final and the Madrilenians won 3-1.

Almost three years later, the Spanish club have again taken the best by the same score against their English rivals, this time in the quarter-final first leg of the competition.

The evening of Vinicius

A clear rise which is reflected in the 2nd minute by a shot on target from striker Karim Benzema.

But the Frenchman is not the most prominent player during this first period.

Vinicius distinguished himself shortly after with a slightly too uncrossed header (13th).

Above all, on a long deep pass from midfielder Toni Kroos, the Brazilian directs the ball with his chest, speeds up the opposing hinge and deceives the goalkeeper Alisson with a half-volley: 1-0, 27th.

The visitors are struggling, whether in attack or defense.

Illustration in the 36th minute when the side Trent Alexander-Arnold totally misses a withdrawal of the head.

Forward Marco Asensio then faces the "Reds" goalkeeper.

The latter hesitates to throw himself.

The Madrilenian took the opportunity to erase it with a little blow from the sombrero, then to score in the empty cage: 2-0.

Shortly after the break, winger Mohamed Salah maintains the illusion by taking advantage of a deflected shot from his partner Diojo Jota to reduce the score: 2-1, 51st.

But Vinicius sets the record straight, thanks to a good job from Benzema and a center from the middle Luka Modric: 3-1, 65th.

Thanks to this success, Real Zinedine Zidane takes an option on qualifying for a semi-final against FC Porto or Chelsea.

Thanks to the away goal, Liverpool can however hope to reverse the trend on April 14 in the second leg.
