- I played my best tennis and I am very happy about what happened here, says the 24-year-old Pole to ATP after the win against double partner Sinner after playing backhand against backhand throughout the match.

Sinner also made a big step up the ranking with eight places up to number 23.

- I was nervous during the whole match, yes already from the day before, but it is common when you want to win.

Today was not my day.

It's tough to be 19 years old and play the final, Sinner says according to Reuters.

Lived in Florida last year

Hurkacz was in Florida much of last year, something he thinks came into play.

- I was here about half the year.

We trained hard and I'm used to the conditions.

It's probably part of the success I've had here in Florida, says Hurkacz, who has now achieved the greatest Polish men's successes, three ATP titles, since Wojtek Fibak's days 40 years ago when he won 15 tournaments.

On the women's side, Iga Swiatek made a sensation when she won the French Open last autumn.

- My tennis is getting better and better and this was special for me, says Hurkacz.

The tournament was played without Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer and today's final pair are among the dozens of younger players who are ready to challenge for dominance.
