The Japan Para-Cycling Federation has announced that 50-year-old Yoshiko Sugiura, who won the world championship twice, has been appointed as the representative of Japan for the Tokyo Paralympics bicycle.

At the age of 45, Sugiura fell at a bicycle tournament, leaving his brain and right half of his body impaired.

However, he started the para-competition cycling competition in 2017, won the world championship and time trial of the road event of that year, and won the road race in the 2018 world championship.

The federation has decided to represent Sugiura as the representative of the Tokyo Paralympics in consideration of these achievements and the possibility of winning medals.

Japan is currently winning 3 men's and 2 women's qualifications in the Tokyo Paralympic Cycling competition, and other Japanese national teams are scheduled to be selected in June.

Sugiura has been competing for 4 years

Yoshiko Sugiura is 50 years old from Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

At the age of 45, he fell down at a bicycle tournament and suffered from "higher brain dysfunction", which caused his memory to deteriorate, and his right half of his body remained paralyzed.

After that, he won the world championship of the road event for two years in a row, and is expected to win a medal at the Tokyo Paralympics.
