Tampa Bay has 17 straight home wins against Detroit.

The last time Detroit defeated Tampa was in 2013. And that trend was probably thought by most to be extended to 18 straight games as Detroit is one of the league's worst teams, while Tampa Bay is the reigning champion and a top team in the league.

But Detroit showed tremendous efficiency at the end of the second period, which they took a 1-0 lead with after Dylan Larkin cracked the zero with 13 seconds left of the first period.

Valtteri Filppula made it 2-0 on a direct shot from the left technical circle after Luke Grendening found the Finn with a pass from the right corner.

And 29 seconds later, Christian Djoos sent off a puck from blue that went into the rim, bounced out in front of goal, past Christopher Gibson in the Tampa box and ended up at Michael Rasmussen's club which put 3-0.

Barely two and a half minutes later, Marc Staal also managed to make it 4-0 shortly after Brayden Point hit the post for Tampa.

Detroit leads 4-0 after two periods.
