The round of 16 of the European Cup between Leinster and RC Toulon will not take place, announced the EPCR on Friday.

“Leinster Rugby - RC Toulon canceled.

More to come, ”tweeted the European professional club rugby (EPCR), organizer of the competition, without further details at this stage.

According to the EPCR rules, “if a match cannot be played safely, then it will be canceled and the club whose COVID-19 status did not require the cancellation will qualify for the next phase”.

According to various media, Toulon would have at least one positive case, which would lead to a qualification of Leinster.

The group stage had been interrupted

The match between Leinster, who share the record for trophies in the competition (4) with Stade Toulouse, and Toulon was to kick off the resumption of the most prestigious continental club competition.

The group stage was interrupted at the end of the second day due to the English variant of the coronavirus which had affected several teams.
