The football year has just begun in Sweden, but for Fifa referee Tess Olofsson, the situation has already been sharp.

At the end of March, she refereed, among other things, the Champions League quarter-final between Barcelona and Manchester City.

Now the pre-season is back and the focus is on her first season as a regular referee in the Superettan.

- I am new to the elite group and the goal is to perform as well as I can in every match to establish myself there and then take the next step.

"Coincidences that govern"

And the goal for the referee is the Allsvenskan.

But to say when is difficult as it is not only her own achievements that decide.

- It is also coincidences that govern, it is about competition and places in the referee group (in the Allsvenskan).

Right now that group is full and that means that it can take two or three days because there is no room to step up, says Tess Olofsson and develops:

- Even if we perform in the Superettan, it is difficult to poke someone in the Allsvenskan.

Therefore, it is difficult to set a schedule when I can take the step up, even if you yourself have a goal picture.

Around Europe, a number of her female colleagues have now also broken new ground.

Frenchwoman Stephanie Frappart refereed a World Cup qualifier on the men's side last week and on Monday, the British Rebecca Welch will be the first female referee to judge a professional match on the men's side in England.

If Tess Olofsson were to get the chance in the Allsvenskan, she would once again make history as the first women's judge in Sweden.

- I think it's too early.

But I will do everything I can to perform and get the chance.
