This year's first major golf competition - ANA Inspiration - began on Thursday at Mission Hills Country Club in California.

After the first day, Anna Nordqvist is in a shared fourth place of 68 strokes after a bogey-free round with four birdies.

Dani Holmqvist needed two more strokes, and shares 16th place with 13 other golfers, among them Inbee Park and Michelle Wie West.

The first Swede out on Mission Hills was Madelene Sagström.

But it could have started better for the 28-year-old.

Sagström, who started on hole ten, started with five straight pairs before going on three bogeys on the next four holes.

After cutting nine holes, she was +3 and had a good distance up to the top.

But Sagström pulled himself together.

On the next nine holes, she struck with four birdies and eventually landed on 71 strokes, one under par.

Two other Swedes are in this year's first major: Pernilla Lindberg (who won the competition in 2018) went around in pairs while things went worse for Linnea Ström who stayed on three over.
