Guardiola unveils a replacement for Aguero

The Spanish coach of Manchester City, England, Josep Guardiola, said, Friday, that the economic repercussions of the Corona virus may prevent the Premier League leaders from the possibility of replacing the historic Argentine striker, Sergio Agüero.

Guardiola believed that City, which is fighting this season on four fronts and is moving steadily towards regaining the Premier League title from Liverpool, has enough talent to deal with the loss of Aguero's efforts.

The 32-year-old Argentine joined City in 2011 from Atletico Madrid, and has so far won 10 titles and scored 257 goals in 384 games, but the trip will come to an end at the end of the current season.

City's name has recently been associated with distinguished players such as Norwegian striker Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund), England captain Harry Kane (Tottenham) and French world champion Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain), but Guardiola is not sure that such goals are realistic.

Although City is considered one of the richest clubs in England and the world, it, like other clubs, has suffered from the repercussions of the Corona virus outbreak and lost the financial return that the crowd provides due to playing behind closed doors.

On Friday, Guardiola said in a press conference: "There is a great possibility that we will not sign a striker for next season. We have enough players in the first team now and there are also interesting players in the academy."

He continued: "There is a great possibility, in light of the current situation in the world and the economic problems in world football, not to contract with any striker for the next season."

Guardiola acknowledged that Aguero is a symbol at the club so much that it was very difficult not to renew the contract, but the Argentine experienced a disappointing season due to injury and had to stay away from the team for a month after being infected with the Coronavirus.

"We know how important he is as a player at the present time and what he was in the past," Guardiola said. "These decisions are never easy."

Aguero won four Premier League titles and appears on his way to bid farewell to "Etihad Stadium" with a fifth title, as City leads the standings by 14 points ahead of arch-rivals Manchester United, second.

City's historic scorer hopes to bid farewell to the "Citizens" in the best way by contributing to their leadership to a historic four, because the team has also qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals, the competition that is his ultimate goal, where he meets Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, back and forth.

He also reached the League Cup final, where he meets Tottenham in the current 25, and the semi-finals of the cup, where he faces Chelsea in 17 of it.
